Two Months with a Personal Trainer

Two Months with a Personal Trainer

My 2-Month Journey with a Personal Trainer

In May, I crossed the finish line on month two of strength training classes and weekly sessions with a personal trainer at Fit Results in the South Loop. I started this journey after my friend, health and fitness content creator, Sany Nguyễn, Esq. of Sany Delight, who you may recognize from being featured in 2018 Nike Ad Campaigns in downtown Chicago, introduced me to Lou, the owner of Fit Results and we started this 2024 fitness partnership with their 24 week transformation program.

Two months into my journey with a personal trainer at Fit Results, I’m thrilled to report that I’ve made some significant progress—I’ve decreased my body fat by 3%! This journey has been transformative, both physically and mentally, and I’m excited to share the highlights of my experience. One of which, is better sleep and a mental break from work and stress.

Started my second month of personal training hiking in Arizona.

A New Class Format: One-Minute Challenges

This month, Fit Results introduced a new class format that has really pushed my limits. Instead of our usual routine, we now challenge ourselves with one-minute sets. This approach combines both cardio and strength training, ensuring a well-rounded workout every time. The intensity of working hard for a full minute has added a new dimension to my training, keeping things fresh and exciting.

I’ve really enjoyed the community at Fit Results. In some of the classes, we have a buddy for ab sessions or weight lifting and it really helps motivate you when you have to hold a plank as your partner does burpees.

One of the unexpected joys of the 24-week transformation challenge has been getting to know other participants. After our classes, we often spend 20-30 minutes on the elliptical, bikes, or treadmill, chatting about meal prepping and sharing our challenges and successes. This camaraderie has made the journey even more enjoyable and motivating.

Nutrition and Lifestyle:

Our personal trainer is incredibly supportive, often texting us on weekends to check in on our meal prep progress. Initially, I relied heavily on protein-rich meal kits, but as I move into my third month of working out, I’ve transitioned to meal prepping with a focus on protein and vegetables.

Here are some of my new go-to meals and snacks:

  • Avocado toast with eggs on Ezekiel bread: A delicious and nutritious start to the day.
  • Chicken and veggies: A classic and versatile meal that’s easy to prepare and packed with nutrients.
  • Snacks: I’m loving spicy pickles from Trader Joe’s, hummus with veggies, and protein shakes (I’m still experimenting with different flavors to find my favorites).

Working out on Fridays has become a crucial part of my routine, helping me kick off the weekend on a positive and energized note. Nutrition and lifestyle is one of the hardest parts of the program and I’m still finding my balance.

Finding My Strength: Progress with Weights and Kettlebells

Currently, I’m working with weights and kettlebells ranging between 15 and 25 pounds. One of the most challenging yet rewarding parts of this new format is lifting 25-pound weights for one minute over three rounds. Initially, it felt daunting, but with each session, I’ve noticed improvement in my strength and endurance. The sense of accomplishment I feel after completing these sets is incredible and motivates me to keep pushing my limits.

Looking Ahead

As I continue this journey, I’m excited to see how my body and fitness levels will continue to evolve. The support and guidance from my personal trainer have been invaluable, and the new class format has reignited my passion for working out. Here’s to more progress, more challenges, and more victories in the months to come!

Stay tuned for more updates on my fitness journey. If you’re considering working with a personal trainer or trying out new workout formats, I highly recommend giving it a shot—you might be surprised at what you can achieve!
