Botox is the New Make-up: Time Magazine

“Talk to me when you’re 30,” my friend said, insinuating that I will join the growing fad and get some Botox when wrinkles start to show and my face becomes far from pretty.

Since it is National Martini Day, while you raise your martini and get together for girl’s night this Friday, add this to your cocktail chatter—Time Magazine just published  a piece, “Nip. Tuck. Or Else,” stating that cosmetic surgery is on the rise. More precisely, Americans have had 3.5 million rounds of Botox. THIS YEAR.


The Time Magazine article by Joel Stein started the way my conversation ended, “You’re going to have to do it.”

Let’s face it, we do A LOT to meet beauty standards sans syringe. We wear make-up, apply umpteen creams to our face daily, and schedule the weekly maini/pedi.


Stein made a compelling argument. And yes, I did subscribe to Time Magazine to read the whole thing.

He touches on the subtle transformations that brought about today’s beauty norms. For starters, how doctor’s and dentist’s offices’ have become the new beauty salons. He goes further to talk about nationally publicized procedures through TV shows. And then, he lands on men, who are starting to take part in this surgical enhancement ritual.

Are we women so competitive and is our society so beauty-centric that we will do the next best thing?

The pressure to be prettier will always be there.

Brides are doing it for their wedding day. Moms are doing it.

The question is, girly, would you join the bandwagon and get a little Botox—a little nip and tuck?
